Project Revival

This project holds a special place in my heart. Back in late 2019, while still at Meta, I pitched an idea to create an augmented reality (AR) experience for the Egyptian Museum to digitally restore damaged ancient artifacts. The vision was to enable visitors to see how these relics might have looked in their original, pristine form, bringing history to life through the lens of cutting-edge technology.

As an Egyptian passionate about both my heritage and the possibilities of tech, this project was more than just work—it was a mission. Yet, the journey was far from easy. The pandemic brought delays, funding challenges loomed, and navigating collaboration with multiple teams and external partners proved to be a massive undertaking. But thanks to the relentless dedication of everyone involved, this vision turned into a reality.
I may have moved on from Meta, but I am beyond proud to have seen this project come to fruition. On November 11th, I had the privilege of attending the official launch as a guest, witnessing this dream come to life in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Egyptian Museum, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
A project like this doesn’t happen without the passion and hard work of an entire team. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible people who made this possible:

-
Fares Akkad, Meta’s Regional Country Director, for his unwavering support.
-
Ali Proctor-Walsh, the creative producer who was with me through every step, championing the project even after I had left.
-
The amazing policy and Instagram teams: Shaden Khallaf, Nadia Diab-Caceras, Nada Enan, and Joelle Awwad for funding the project, navigating the complexities behind the scenes, and making sure it comes to life.
-
Nexus Studios, who brought the AR vision to life with their artistry. Special thanks to Anrick Bregman for his creative direction and the brilliant production team—Rob York, Ashley, Helen Broadbridge, and Marc Wakefield.
-
Lastly, to my managers at Meta, Ahmed Hafez Younis and Weera Saad, who entrusted me with this project and championed it at every turn.

Project Revival stands as a testament to what can be achieved when technology, creativity, and passion come together. I’m immensely proud to have been part of this journey and to see it come to life—even if from the audience this time around.
